Ping Pong

It's alright 'cos the historical pattern has shown
How the economical cycle tends to revolve
In a round of decades, three stages stand out in a loop
A slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more
Bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
Huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery
You see the recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry for, things will look after themselves
It's alright, recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry for if things can only get better
There's only millions that lose their jobs and homes and sometimes accents
There's only millions that die in their bloody wars, it's alright
It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
Don't worry, shut up, sit down, go with it and be happy.

  3. One of my very favourite gig memories is going to see this lot at The Cockpit a good 10 years ago and hearing a bloke in the crowd shout for French Disk-ow in a superbly broad Leeds accent.

Was it you, Mr van Dyke?

  4. I love Stereolab. But I did think this was going to be another post about the games you're playing on these cold dark winter nights.

  5. Well I do love a set or two, but our table is in the games room in the west wing and one gets so wet crossing the courtyard in this weather.

  7. My own knowledge of their oeuvre is not especially deep; this would seem a good place to start.

Perhaps other readers can suggest starter albums for Mr Mondo?

  8. Yes I can! "Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night". I think I read somewhere that NME gave it 0/10. It's brilliant. Especially side four.

And yet, I love the way the sweat runs down the inside of the Niassan Hut-style corrogated walls though.
