Friday Reggae # 15

And before you know it, a week's gone.

Ach, I quite enjoyed shutting up for a bit to be honest - popping round other people's places, loving a bit of hot weather early in the week and beyond that just keeping the head down and bringing home the (veggie) bacon, you know how it goes.

I wonder if there's a record fair on somewhere this weekend? I quite fancy a record fair.

This popped up on the iPo en route to one in Chiswick a few weeks back, a sunny Saturday and the little cafes and veg shops bustling along Turnham Green Terrace, everything alright with the world.

It is rather fine and I commend it to the house.

  1. There's a record fair on up here this weekend. You'd have to find a real gem cheap to make it worth your while.

  6. Was at a record fair once and saw that on pic disc, the guy was wanting a tenner for it and I offered a quid, it was going to be a 40th present for a mate who originally came from up north. The guy wouldn't budge from a tenner, I bet he's still toting it about with him

  7. I've got a Korg drum machine that can make those noises. He sounds a bit Elvis Costello in places.

I may have to do a Toto FF post one Friday. It could happen - you know. Get the Dune soundtrack and you'll find Toto and Eno (Toeno?) on the very same album. Who'da thought it.

If you can't find a rec' fair, how about digging about the charity shops

  8. I think that is most likely Mond.

    There's no place like home.

  9. I can feel one brewing up (a To' post). I feel exactly as you described: love 'em (well very selected bits), but should swerve them - why??? How do/did they do it.

And it'll be an excuse to crack out another Sarah Vaugh team-up

  12. Well over a week without a post for me now. I know what you mean - also quite enjoyed being quiet for a while. Was going to post something today (reggae too - it has to be with the weather we've been having), but after a full day's gardening I'm kn*ackered and now we're going out to see the Zen Hussies. Talked Mrs Darce into going and now I'm not sure it's going to be her thing. Oh well.

  13. Meanwhile in the West Country there's a folk festival. I've seen lots of men (and some women) with beards wearing sandals walking around town....

  14. About time - your first week off in a number of years, dear boy. Even I get more holiday than that working for The Man. Liking the reggae too.

No record fairs this way (of course) but, AMAZINGLY, have just secured 2 Golden Tickets to Mr R Hawley at a venue just down the road in July. My jaw hit the floor, I must say, when I got wind of his visit.

    Maybe I'll stay after all...

  15. Two tickets? So that's you and - ?

  16. I had to look up Zen Hussies. Deep breath Mrs D x

  17. Thought it a bit far for you on a Wednesday night old boy, but you are more than welcome to fight MLW for one.

It might be somewhat of a battle - she was on the edge of her seat, phone clamped to her ear as I spent priceless work minutes securing my purchase online. Even the citizens of this backwater seem to have heard of the marvellous man and had clogged the phone lines.

    Oh! The relief.

  18. BTW, managed to get that Audacity thingymajig up and running and uploaded my first vinyl (Don't Come Back by The Marine Girls since you ask). A tad quiet so need to work out the recording levels but I am rather proud of myself!

I just need to work out how I'm going to spend some time with MLW over the coming months now...

  19. An Audacity nerd writes - Assuming you have got the input volume right (check that first) you can make the whole file louder after you've created it by going to the Effects menu, then selecting 'normalise'. This adjusts the volume to the right level. I have to do this.

I think that Marine Girls single was one of the first things I ripped too, spookily.

You will love Hawley, he is magnificent live.

  20. Ca marche! Top Tip!

Need another tho... Artwork is declaring itself 'Not Modifiable', which seems rather a shame, not least because Google Images has a HUGE copy of the pic bag.

    word veri: puthains. Seems appropriate.

  21. (I have taken this discussion with Camp Freddy offline, for fear of boring the nation, or the infinitesimal fraction of it who may chance upon this blog. I thank you).
