The eldest daughter has her best friend round for a sleepover tonight. They want to watch The Blair Witch Project but I have said no because it's a 15, full of swearing, psychologically disturbing and would give her little sister nightmares for months.
Said little sister is 11 on Sunday and wants to go to the cinema to see The Woman In Black. That'll be fine of course, but I seem to be the only person who'd rather watch The Muppets.
I love The Muppets in ways I cannot fully describe.
I once posted this on the collective Fun & Heartbreak blog; still more years on, it has lost none of its charm and allure.
Supermarket curry meal deal and Italia Pinot Grigio; perhaps a London Pride to start.
I took mine to see The Muppet movie last year. It's great.
ReplyDeleteThe Woman In Black? Isn't that a Hammer movie? You know, horror and all that.
It's 'the new Daniel Radcliffe' *swoon*
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw this version of the song was when you posted it on F&H. LOVE it. I grew up with the original (whoa...age spoiler alert) and I still adore that one, too.

Brilliant! This version(from 1968, so I think, the original) by Italian Piero Umiliani was a number 8 chart smash in the UK in 1977 (Year Of Punk, LOL, etc).
ReplyDeletesaw the play of woman in black down your west end on wednesday night. Full of screaming teenagers. Pretty good actually.
ReplyDeleteI had a Scottish widow once.
ReplyDeleteoh heavens i'm not allowed to watch scary things. not never. there's monsterous muppets give me the willies if i'm feeling especial tender. i had a stiff one before watching that clip just in case

Youngest (11) has a chum round for a sleepover tonight - and wants to watch Ong Bak! And to think I bailed from a bite to eat here to get in for it(but did have a scoop) - and got grief from Mrs M (for having a scoop). Ho hum!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lose-lose situation Mond.
ReplyDeleteThe postscript is I relented re.the film - the youngest not happy to be sent off to bed whilst her marginal elders watched, but there you go. It wasn't quite as terrifying as I'd remembered - apart from the bit in the old house at the end - but the effing and jeffing was thick enough.
Apparently if I 'think that's bad, I should hear Sarah at school'.
The ringtone on my phone! Love it!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't half crack up the 5pm poker-faced worker crowd on the bus as I dive in and rustle around my bag all animated-like like to stop the tuneage and mutter, 'hello?'
I consider it a public service to bring on a busload of belly laughs at the end of a working day.
Joyous!
ReplyDeleteWe started with Harry Belafonte and the Banana Boat Song a few months back (when the youngest professed an interest in the song as covered by ahem, Jason Derulo) - genius btw (not Derulo...) - and inevitably ended up here.
Another favourite (I cannot seem to find) is the Banana Boat Song ('Day-Oh!') sung "too loud" leading to the final question, "Would you mind leaving the room?"
Youngest off to The Muppet Movie during half term. Have heard The Woman In Black is v. scary and not for under 12s.... You sure?...!
x
Oh to be on Mr K's bus.
ReplyDeleteStan Freberg Fred.
Got to love this. However... is it just me that has Euro 96 flashbacks of people singing "McManaman" to this tune? Oh. It is just me.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one. Muppets all the way.
ReplyDeleteThe Woman In Black was a good ol' fashioned heart-popping ghost story, as it goes; we liked it.
ReplyDeletePip, as my Zen master is always telling me, 'it's never just you'.
one of the crazy (yet incredibly generous) uncles gave us a few seasons of Muppet Show dvds and I have been watching two episodes each Saturday night with my littles. Just as wonderful as it was back when I was young, even if I have no idea who many of the celebrity guest stars were x.
ReplyDeleteThat's the one! Still sure I've seen the Muppets 'lip-syncing'(!) to this.
ReplyDeleteMaybe just should have been the Muppets!
