Starrstruck

It's the last Friday disco before Christmas and I think we merit a smoker this week.

A gritty old school vocal over ticking synth rhythms and restless bongo beats that build to multiple climaxes* - with no added cheese!

Truly, this record is Friday night.

At seven minutes 16, heaven help me, heaven help us all.

Edwin Starr - 'Contact' (12" version) (1979)

  1. I saw Edwin Starr perform before the start of the 1995 Challenge Cup Final, along with George MacRae. Leeds went on to lose 30-10 to those buggers Wigan, which kind of ruined the day, though

  2. He played at Crocs in Rayleigh , didn't see him though - but contact was the first 12" I bought, pink vinyl too - now If I hadn't left my trusty ol' MP3 player at work for Christmas, would have uploaded Ed's Snowflake Boogie

  6. Glad this got you all....gingly. He did play some odd places in his later years, Edwin. Including The Festival Theatre, Paignton (I didn't go but my mate Marty did).

  7. I did see him at Crocs in Rayleigh and he was amazing. The place was heaving with Punks, Goths, Rockers and Scooter Boys and he won them all over.

And I have the pink vinyl version too.

Good work fella. A great record.
