I've a 2 gig iPod nano; it's my mp3 player of choice. I cannot keep stuff on there, I have to keep reloading it depending on my listening. Last week - until Saturday morning funnily enough - all that was on it was the Fairports. So this song, Who Knows Where The Time Goes, Tam Lin and Matty Groves were getting some serious rotation. I was going to post something by them myself this week. Won't bother now...sulk....lol
This album (What We Did On Our Holidays) isn't name-dropped as often as Unhalfbricking, but I think it's terrific. I love this stuff from the time when they were being described as 'the English Jefferson Airplane'...
I agree that 'What we did ...' is their finest. First heard it when I was 15 and it immediately made an impression. The cover of Joni Mitchell's 'Eastern Rain' and Richard Thompson's 'Book Song' are both fantastic. The whole album was done with a confidence and swagger that was infectious, but tied in is this pathos that runs right the way through. Essential listening.
