Yeah Baby

Our occasional series of extended disco classics builds into a magnificent library your whole family will enjoy.

This week, in memoriam Theodore De Reese 'Teddy' Pendergrass (1950-2010).

Lovin' the 'breakdown' at 5:08. And what a voice.

Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - 'Don't Leave Me This Way' (extended version) (1975)

  6. But what about 'Jimmy Sommerville's bloody dancing'? Eh?

  7. Never mind "the thumb" let's get back to the point - as you said Davy what a voice! Life didn't deal the Teddy Bear too good a hand in the end.

  8. No. And I've been touched to read in all the reports how positively he dealt with it all.

  10. ...and forget Jimmy Sommerville. If you want to hear a good version of 'Don't Leave Me This Way' Thelma Houston's the one.

  11. This is the first I've heard of his death. (I'm so out of the loop at the moment it's ridiculous.) Bummer. Teddy P was possibly my second favourite vocalist ever, behind Sam Cooke.

The Communards' version of DLMTW was probably the first I ever heard. It went down a storm at school discos, parties and so forth. I still really like it now. But on balance the original version knocks spots off it.

  12. I thought I had commented on this post. Obviously it did not go through.

I would love to know how many people were conceived to the voice of TP.
