5

This has been a blog on the internets for five of your Earth years. It's a long time, it's no time at all, it's flown by, it seems like forever.

I'd never have imagined I'd stick with it so long.

I've posted whatever I've been listening to and written about whatever I've been doing, thinking or feeling -  most of it stuff of little consequence - and you've kept dropping in, and I'm chuffed. I've said before and still maintain - your comments are the very best thing about this.

And thank you, fellow bloggers, for the music - there's been so much of it.....so many trails you've set me off on, so many previously unheard records I've taken entirely to my heart and now could not live without.

And when I've been blue you've made me laugh and when I've disappeared up my own arse (which I may well be currently doing) you have pulled me out (hmm, attractive image).

That's What - as the very great Burt Bacharach once said, or was it Carole Bayer Sager - Friends Are For.

Thank you.

Lograremos un gran final
No nos moveran
Sabiendo que vamos a vencer
Y venceremos
Y venceremos
Y venceremos...

Working Week - 'Venceremos (We Will Win) (jazz dance special 12" edition)' (1984).

  6. Have a leg-shaking, hat-popping day of funky doings..

And treat yourself to a twist to this - from the obscure-but-saucy crate..

Here's to another 5 years of platinum blogging

  8. Blimey, 5 years...dunno when I arrived 2007ish probably. Its been a blast as they say! More please more!

  9. Most people arrived in 2007 Smoni. Quite rightly - it was utter arse before then.

  10. it's all been good, apart from that Jones Girls nonsense of course but as you already know I will always be in your debt for Easter Parade.

I will raise a glass to you when I eventually get home from Aberdeen tonight.

As someone once said Here's to us wha's like us

  11. The Jones Girls. He WILL NOT LET IT LIE.

  12. Credit where it's due. You've put in a solid workmanlike performance for the full 90 minutes. The legs may be going a bit now, but (he says says earnestly whilst pointing to his temple) you save that extra yard in here - with experience, knowledge and vision. Any youngsters watching should no further than Davy H for inspiration.

I was going to say The Ghost Of Electricity is like a glorious, glistening bell-end. But that may be deemed, in some quarters, as inappropriate, so I won't.

However, I will have a large G&T tonight in your honour. Being a Third World Northerner, I've never seen a lime, so will have to reach for the 'pancake day' squeezy Jif lemon snuck at the back of the fridge.

Here's to you - and to all the genuine lovely folk who stop by.

  13. 'To all the genuine lovely folk who stop by' hear hear Dickie.

    Never seen a lime. Imagine.

  14. And what a corking record to celebrate with. As Cliff Richard so eloquently said: Congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Aye, its magnificence is undimmed by the years. How long you been at this lark now Lee? 6? 7?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I seem to remember my first sight of Lee was back in about 2005? Number One Song In Heaven? Was that the name of the blog?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sheesh, 5 was it? Yes, I remember the blog. Boy's a pioneer - along with Colin, Adam, The Lonesomes - ye brave soulles who hath gone before

    ReplyDelete
  18. I thought those guys were doing an impossible, amazing thing. Colin's 'Let's Kiss And Make Up' - I couldn't believe someone had made their own website with actual groovy music you could download. Inspiring. Liderally.

  19. Evening Mr H, traffic was appalling, seems everybody wants to leave the North East of Scotland on a Friday evening and head for the bountiful attractions of West Central Scotland.

Anyhoo, got any fizz on the go to celebrate or am I going to have to settle for a lukewarm can of Skol?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I fear so Drew. Mrs H made me go up the corner shop for more wine saying I'd drunk loads while cooking and there was nothing left for her. Yah boo sucks.

  21. Christ, think I started my previous blog (which is now lost on the internet somewhere) back in 2004.

It was a different world back then kids, mp3 blogging was a young and new novelty and I got mentioned in The Guardian, USA Today, and The Boston Globe (interviewed even!)

Now every Tom, Dick and Davy is at it.

  23. But it can't be called 'Kennedy' it must be called 'Nate Will Not Return' and I just had a deja vu with that comment, weird.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It is called Nate, seems like journalist has his facts wrong. The album is 18 quid on vinyl, a bit steep!

  25. Congrats for your endurance and what a song to post on your 5th. I've been looking for this record for years after losing my original somewhere over the years. In Broome, Western Australia, my chances of finding it are not, er, high. LOve your blogs, appreciate your commitment and keep enjoying the odd gold nugget you leave for us idle browsers!
    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cheers to you too rf and thanks to all you other 'idle browsers' out there also. It's a fine thing to uncover a nugget you've lost, I know.

  27. Happy birthday, Mr H. Glad to see you going strong.

Will hunt out a lime in leafy north Leeds to toast you - and all of us - with a shuddering strong G&T.

  28. Thank you Beth and aye, here's to us all. 'Lonesome Music' 7 years old at least? Makes this look positively half-arsed x

  29. Here in sunny Juan-Les-Pins raising a glass to your 5th. It's been a blast and long may it continue.

It seems to me the "golden age" of such bloggeries as ours may be over, and the ones with legs (being 5 definitely means you have legs) maybe becoming part of a little corner of the 'net - perhaps we could call it the snug.

    ReplyDelete
  30. davh, he'll do a job for you (adopt Harry R accent). the scotty parker of musical bloggage if you will.

yr tunes are top notch as is the banter. my usual distaste for English lads talking in that self-satisfied way is mostly countermanded by the dudes who waffle on your site.

    damn, ireland lost to-day

    ReplyDelete
  31. Banter? There's banter?

I had to look Scotty Parker up arto, that's how far from being an 'English lad' I am (thought he might be a tenor sax player from the 50s, tbh).

Darce, the snug is fine with me. I'll be Martha and you can be Ena.

  32. Many congratulations!

(I tend to go about five years between posts nowadays.)

  33. Happy birthday and here's to the next 5!
