Right, that's it - I'm wrapped for at least a week and it's chocolate and telly and cosy toasts to the goddess Ēostre all the way.
Been listening to a lot of jazzy hip-hop of late.
I'm old skool, I'm dope.
Cheers.
Eric B. & Rakim - 'Don't Sweat The Technique' (1992)
But how's your microphone technique?
ReplyDeleteBitchin'
ReplyDeleteDidn't expect that Mr H. I love Rakim's rapping.
ReplyDeleteGenius sampling too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, wonder what happened to Eric B? I've got a load of their 12" singles and the first two albums. I know the Coldcut mix of Paid In Full is the one but I love the Derek B remix
ReplyDeleteDerek B is a bad young brother.
ReplyDeleteWhat a song. I remember this being dropped (!) on Yo! MTVraps with Fab five freddy. It became a hugh favourite in dublins funky and fresh nights around 1992/3 . Eric B's style was one of the best. There was a tune called 'kill 'em again' on the album which recounted his wish to shoot motherfuckers that he had already killed but in a very smooth way. god be with the days.
ReplyDelete"Dublin's funky and fresh nights" - woah.
ReplyDelete..there was quite and interest in that kinda thing over here for a few years. you would a fairly sizable british contingent at the various club nights playing this stuff in dublin. and 'funky and fresh' was one of the more popular. the name would probably be used to sell retro phones or somesuch now. but then it meant that eddie pillar or that guy the vinyl junky had come to play.
ReplyDeleteone downside was that irish people cannot wear hats of the norman jay varity no matter how much the try. and we did try.
I share your pain Anto because I cannot wear a hat, as you know
ReplyDelete'Follow The Leader' still sounds like some weird ass shit, or whatever the kids over here say these days.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I seem to have dropped in to the wrong bar.
ReplyDeleteNever knowlingly heard any jazzy hip-hop, but the fact that the chap on the right has 'Eric' on the back of his bomber jacket is rather splendid. (Perhaps the fellow on the right should be 'Ern)
1st Easter I've had without my lovely wife for best part of 30 years. Been thinking bout some of the places we went and the journeys we had.
Consequently I'm sad in-between the happy. The pain in my heart is immense.
I wish you all hope and heartfelt love. x
Pint please Glo. Eric's buying.
Thoughts with you Dickie x
ReplyDeleteDVD- all the best matr. You're breaking my heart.
ReplyDeleteMate.
ReplyDeleteI was looking for this recently after I heard it on the radio (Huey Morgan probably). Thanks for this and for jogging my memory that I need to find a vinyl copy.
ReplyDeleteHappy hols. The weather has got us looking forward to a cosy weekend in (after a cold but nevertheless enjoyable walk in the country yesterday).
indeed
ReplyDelete(just finished rewatching the wire from start to finish and can't help myself. sorry)
I think this is my absolute favorite song by them.
ReplyDeleteIn re your "Currently Reading" I loved that Craig Taylor book, I wanted it to go on forever x
I'm really enjoying it. Brilliantly, I mentioned it on Twitter and he replied to me, too.
