That is bang on - the theme from 'Match Of The Day' still makes think of turn in time, followed by Sunday morning spent reading Krazy (Cheeky Weekly later)and Whizzer and Chips comics
I really do love that theme tune, the Torino car, those opening titles and Starsky's trainers (Adidas SL76s) http://www.flickr.com/photos/cardbush/373732393/ And yes I do have a pair in adult size
You keep on talking like that and it's bed for you my son.
Do you remember 'Starsky & Hutch' magazine? Glossy A5, bit like 'The Beatles Book', but in colour, of course. Printed all the lyrics to David Soul's lovely hit singles, and long before Smash Hits was invented...
It was the Sportsnight theme for me. I think it was the added pffizzz of being a weeknight, but if I was still awake then by that time my mum would have gone to bed, and when I heard 'dududududu dududududu dada dududududu dudududu...' I could sneak downstairs for dogs from white city or amateur boxing. Or, just once a year, the huge huge treat that was the five-a-sides.
My mum used to let me stay up to watch Tales Of The Unexpected, although I think that was Sunday nights. I think she thought because it was Roald Dahl stories it was somehow acceptable.
I had the early S and H monthlies, (and the fold out poster mags, and annual with the shocking pink cover) but it was always the same song lyrics about 'Black Bean Soup' or somesuch.
I'm been thinking of doing bloggy bit about 'Planet Of The Apes' at some point (those two in the TV show were surely the template for S and H)
Have a peep at this nugget the UK Marvel POTA comics available to read online.
Planet Of The Apes, along with the test card girl, is one of my earliest memories of tv. Sunday nights again wasn't it? About 7pm? We'd just moved into a new flat near Old Street and my mum and dad were decorating the bedrooms. Meanwhile we were living in the front room. My bed faced the tv.
It was one of my favourite things alongside Marvel's Dracula comic. Tales Of The Unexpected, Dracula and talking apes running the world. What were my parents up to?
On a school night, my mum would say, "You can only watch 1 half of the football" on Sportsnight (with Coleman). "OK" says I, "I'll watch the second half!"

Confession is good for the soul they say, so here goes...David Soul's Silver Lady is one of my guilty pleasures. I love it...seriously.
