  2. I love Angel Eyes, it's one of my all time favourite singles; it's just the perfect little tune, all shiny and smooth in a good way!

  3. Sorry boys does nothing for me. Succumbed to the Hendricks in the cupboard and have now officially fell off the wagon, thought that I deserved a drink what with the week I've had.

  4. And quite right Drewster - about the booze obviously, not the Roxy.

  5. You're getting ahead of me - I'm still working on 'outcheesing' you.

This is great! I remember it being played on the briefly revived Juke Box Jury with Mike Read as host and Rick Wakeman as guest trying to make a joke about how the record was off centre because of the slightly wobbly synth sound. If you want a good quality mp3 of the 12-inch version give me a shout.

  6. Love it, almost any 70s Roxy is just perfect - and the Rawk Versions pretty tasty too...

  8. I sat on the next table to that Otis Ferry on the train once. He was being loud and obnoxious but there was a (I know it was 2006 but twenty years too late or not this is the only word for it) sloane sitting opposite him and she was lapping it up, and he was playing some of daddy's songs for her, and then the ticket inspector came along and told him to stop playing music out loud, and he did, and she went and he started again, and then about five minutes later she came back collecting tickets and told him to turn it off again, and he did with quite a tut, and he gave her his ticket and she started to give it back and then looked at it again... and he'd given her a ticket which was a year, to the day, out of date, so at first glance it would appear kosher. And it wasn't a mistake, he didn't have a real ticket at all and sadly it wasn't one of those 'penalty fare' things (we don't have them out here) so he just had to buy another ticket. But he'd actually gone to the trouble of trying to save a fiver and put one over on whoever BR are now by saving up and using a year old ticket. Cunt.

  12. Sorry Simon, that comment was supposed to be in reply to Adam not you, too much gin (one) and too little sleep.

  13. Perhaps one day Mr Otis will regret .. being such a wank stain on the pants of society.

Daddy Ferry has become a caricature of himself. (Or Twat, as is said in some quarters). It shouldn't be forgotten that the smoother than a bucket of snake shit singles like Dance Away, Over You, Angel Eyes, More Than This, success phase was a Comeback -following 3 or 4 years in the fat bank balance and unplugged synthezizer wilderness.

  14. I feel the need to jump in here and correct some of the horse-pucky that's being bandied about on this thread: A) Everything Roxy ever recorded was brilliant; B) Biryani Ferret is a flawless human being; C) leave poor Otis Ferry alone. It's not easy living in the shadow of Greatness.

P.S. Thx for the tunes Davy!

  15. One of Fuckwit Otis' favourite pastimes, I think you'll find. Especially when played with nearly dead fox.

  16. Let's get back to the music. I think I can support emmett's statement A) at least.

Spookily enough I spent a good deal of early Friday evening watching RM's Thrill Of It All DVD. Brilliant. I had to turn it off in the end as I was required to do some housework ("are you still watching that?"). If I had been allowed to continue I reckon I would have got to Angel Eyes at about the time you posted this!

A hat trick of performances from German TV's Musik Laden (Pyjamarama, Amazona, Psalm) were a highlight. On one of my business trips to Munich a year or two ago I arrived at my hotel after midnight (late flight) collapsed on the bed, turned on the TV and this (or another?) Musik Laden session was on! The case stayed unpacked for the next 45 minutes or so. Cheered me up no end.

  17. I ws too young to really apprecaite Roxy Music Mk 1. But come Mk2 in 79/80, I thought their Manifesto for music was far from Trash. Apart from that Jealous Guy cover which was bloody awful.

Got to see them live in 1980, and it remains an all time favourite gig.

Oh and while Bryan did start to get on evertone's tits by the mid 80s, you cant blame him entirely for his Flesh and Blood.

(go on, I've teed you up for a reply of 'Oh Yeah@?)

  18. and I feel I must mention that the bass player is Gary Tibbs, who was immortalised in song a few years later:-

"Im standing here with my four men
Lets start that rapping thing again:

"Marco, merrick, terry lee, gary tibbs and yours truly
In the naughty north and in the sexy south
Were all singing I have the mouth"
