Very good with the title, you weren't tempted with stretching to Woking Class Hero? Apparently his new one's meant to be a sizzler..
PS any typos/stuck keys, are due to the mini~mondo's sticky mitts clogging up the keys..that's why I'm using ~ instead of - (which I've cut and paste from yours)
Right, I'm off to the pub to meet Piley and Marmite..
I'm not sure there is that much interest .. but 1 or 2 of you may wish to know of the trials and tribulations of 'From The Jam'.
As they ready themselves for the start of the winter tour next week, 2009 has been a tough time - particularly with Bruce Foxton's wife passing away and latterly Rick Buckler leaving the 3 piece, with Mark Brzezicki stepping in.
If you wish, you can learn more from Russel Hastings at http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/podcast/ along with acoustic versions of an old and a new song.
From The Jam play Leeds next week - on the very same night as Paul Weller plays down the road in Bradford. Strange days indeed.
I recall this time in rainy cold November 22 yrs ago when 'PAUL WELLER ARRESTED AFTER BRAWL IN HOTEL WITH AUSTRALIAN RUGBY TEAM. DISCHARGED BY LEEDS COURT AFTER SPENDING A NIGHT IN THE CELLS'. Silly sod!
Weller's new single - '7&3 Is The Striker's Name'; hmmm I'm with you Simon. Too much knob-twiddling Bloody Valentine FX for my sensitive lugs. (He's 50 you know!)
Just back from a couple of days in Belfast. Still not had any red Guinness, DVD, went to a couple of pubs last night, alas none of the red stuff but the black stuff was lovely. Not a lot else to say really apart from Sleazy Jet have changed to the winter schedule which means I got home later.
Top Tip - never get the Friday night flight from Belfast to Glasgow full of groups of males I suspect coming over for sectarian sport the following day.
"here's a tune you might know"...that intro came onto the iPod the other day in the car. Ah the days when we used to speak/sing along with those as well as the songs.
them lines have been running round my head since I read the post..So much of The Jam stuff is still so relevant now! 'The Gift'album in particular but 'Burning Skys' from Setting Sons seems to hit home with each passing year. 'Ghosts' is the one that gets me...puts a lump in my throat every single time I listen to it 'But you keep it hidden just like everyone You're scared to show you care - it'll make you vulnerable So you wear that ghost around you for disguise
But there's no need just 'cos it's all we've known There's more inside you that you haven't shown'
'Ghosts' is a song I sort of associate with Christmas - I think because I used to saturation-play the live version off 'Dig The New Breed' which came out in December 82.
Keep on shuff shuff shufflin' to that ghost-dance beat x
Thats weird. I was going to post the very same vid....
ReplyDeleteBlimey - transmitting thought messages through the vast unknown (er, and Wiltshire).

the new single is up for listening on Weller's website. I'm not sure actually if I like it yet, or even at all...

Love to all.
Fuck. It's 32 years ago!
ReplyDeleteAnother large one please.
Everything's 32 years ago now, I find. Genuinely sorry to hear about Bruce's missus.

Welcome home Drew. Feet up son.
ReplyDeleteAnd a top tip indeed.
Apparently Bruce is playing some bass on Weller's next album, which is supposedly why Rick left From The Jam. Allegedly.
