Lovely. Amazingly, when I was sifting through my record boxes just prior to getting my new turntable I came across this and couldn't remember how it went. I could remember the general sound but not the details, so it became one of the first records I played and it all came flooding back.
P.S. I'm also on childcare duty for the next two weeks (if I survive it)
I finally, after years of reading about them and seeing them referenced all over the place, listened to Young Marble Giants last year. I was more than impressed, and so searched out anything they were involved with. Which meant tracking this down. And here it is. Great track.
Their stuff was very hard to get hold of for years - this and a reissue with bonus tracks of their one studio LP helpfully gathered together most of what you'd want, except for this very track (the 7" single version of the song) but 'Archive' itself is now getting trickier to find.
With its equally lovely B-side which I posted here a year ago, this is certainly One Of The Great 7" Singles Of My Life.
According to this vocalist Alison Statton is apparently now a chiropractor in Wales.
It made the 1982 Festive Fifty without Peel once playing it. Elicited the classic comment, 'Starting to think for yourselves, eh? We'll soon stamp that out.'
