Weirder

Of course it goes without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway, there would have been no Korgis without 10CC. And sorry, all 'post-modern', clever clever, nudge-nudge wink-wink irony bollocks aside, I absolutely chuffing well love this. I know! It's not even an OBSCURE 10CC track! (such things must surely exist? No?). It's not a lost gem from an otherwise pants-rated album! It's not an early acoustic demo scratched out pre-fame in a barbiturate-fuelled fug! NO! It's the one, Simon Bates Our Tune spinning, solid gold FM local radio station-loving, disco-snogging classic. *sigh*

It really is true that the woman on the 'big boys don't cry' spoken word bit (Kathy Warren) was the receptionist at the recording studio, drafted in at the last minute to smoulder. Hey, but you knew that.
.
Did you also know though that vocalist/guitarist Graham Gouldman was a former member of the Mockingbirds who had written hits for Jeff Beck, the Yardbirds, the Hollies and Herman's Hermits, singer/guitarist Eric Stewart was a former member of Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders and that they originally got together with studio musos Lol Creme and Kevin Godley in 1970 as a session band called Hotlegs and had a surprise hit with "Neanderthal Man" ?

Did you WANT to?

You didn't? Tchh! Indie kid!

10CC - 'I'm Not In Love' (1975)

Go on, 'save target as' - you know you want to.

(Time for my medication. Draw the curtains. It's OK. I'll be fine).

  2. I don't mind a bit of 10cc they were a fun size Pink Floyd.

The singles are superb,Silly Love Songs, Rubber Bullets, I'm Mandy..... but the albums are a bit patchy.

Love the 'How Dare You' Cover. Isn't that the fella from Pebble Mill on the trimphone?

  3. Of course I want to save it. It is remembered as being voted as the 'bestest song wot ever got made'in October 1978. They ran a poll to pick the top 500 tracks of all time and this won ahead of Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven. Why do I remember this? I haven't the foggiest notion apart from the fact that I'm a bit sad and until fairly recently retained the poster they produced with the full run down of all 500 tracks.

Just remember 'Big Boys Don't Cry'.

  4. I agree about the albums, I bought 'How Dare You' once because I liked 'I'm Mandy Fly Me' so much (still do) but it was too much smartypants wankery for me.

But a 10cc greatest hits album is a joy from start to finish (well, apart from' Dreadlock Holiday')

  5. Oh God yes, spare us the borderline-racist cod reggae.

Who WAS that Pebble Mill presenter?

What ELSE was in that Top 500 list (no punk, I bet)???

  8. Oh god, I’ve got an obscure kitsch 70’s song that I can’t get out of my head and you’re tempting me to post it.

  9. God now you're testing my powers of recall. I do believe that God Save The Queen and Pretty Vacant were there (Pretty Vacant in the top 100 I think) and pretend pub rock punkers The Stranglers had an entry or too. I don't think Gary Gilmour's Eyes, Germ Free Adolescence or Brixton by The Straps came close mind.

  11. Well I still like it anyway. Prefer 'Wall Street Shuffle' though.
