The Quiet One



The wife's favourite Beatle would have been 65 today. By way of tribute, and in celebration of her own birthday tomorrow (these Pisceans stick together you know) here's a track from 1974's Dark Horse album.

The original's on one of Mrs H's LPs we rescued from the loft last week, and it's a song I'd never heard until she asked me to play it on Friday.

I like it that you can be with someone for sixteen years and they can still play you old music that's new to you.

Nice 'dedication' to Frank Sinatra at the start of this (and some nifty electric piano from Billy Preston)...

    oh, god rest his soul... George sounds a little bit drunk, doesn't he? what a lovely choon tho' - proper, expensive sounding 70s pop-soul. nice one Davy (and Mrs Davy). is he really singing "Far East man" or is he singing "Poh-Lease man"?

    I've got Ronnie Wood doing this and never realised it was a George song.(should I have kept sush about that?) Sort of Steely Dan meets Young Americans vibe about it. Love those crackles at the end.


    I'm not a fan of Clapton, Jeff Lynne and that lot but this is a mighty version of 'Isn't It A Pity' mainly when Billy Preston kicks in.

    in an ipcress file kind of a way the beadles must be my trigger to kill maim and poke stuff with a sharp stick but there's the odd george one when i'm just about able to resist...

    the only vinyl my mrs owns have big pictures of debbie harry on the front.
